A variety of holidaymakers who had put their names down for last Wednesday’s Grand Prix were suddenly caught unawares when, amongst the few last-minute arrivals signing up for the race, a familiar face (for some), was spotted. Non other than the ex Formula One™ driver Johnny Herbert…
A healthy field of 26 participants commenced their practice session split into groups. With the first group on track including the previous Saturday’s winner Trevor (who had enjoyed it so much that he was back for more), one of our staff, Alex, was simultaneously giving the next group their briefing. Unaware that the person directly in front of him on the briefing bench was the ex Benetton F1™ driver, Alex pointed out that number 28, on-track at the moment, was the guy who had won the previous Saturday’s Kartingmania™ Grand Prix, so best take note of his lines and attempt to copy them. There were a few nods of acknowledgement from some, whilst Johnny, in typical fashion, piped up with “I’ll try to remember that!”
Well he obviously remembered something (good drivers and elephants etc), as he duly went out there and won! With the Italian Grand Prix at Monza taking place the same week marking the 20th anniversary of Johnny Herbert’s win there in Formula One™, his win at the Kartingmania™ Grand Prix, Puerto de Alcudia, obviously got the rest of his week off to a great start.
Kartingmania™’s twice-weekly Grand Prix takes place every Wednesday and Saturday afternoon. It is a non-exclusive race. As such, no minimum numbers are required in order to make an entry.
Winner: Johnny Herbert
Second: Trevor John Goodwin
Third: Paul Langley
